How do I access the Writers Room?

How do I work in the Writers Room?

• You write in the main document on the left side and interact with the characters through the chat box on the right side.
  • Note: If you have a free subscription, there is a limit of 3500 characters. This is equivalent to approximately 1 A4 page. Bear this in mind when copying and pasting from other documents, as longer texts will not paste successfully!
• In the Writers Room there are a few different modes of working.
  • Fireplace: The main chat box with the flame icon is the Fireplace. This is the space where you can chat with all of the characters (and then can chat with each other too!). It’s a more casual, relaxed space for interacting.
  • One-on-one chat: Each character has their own individual icon above the chat box. Clicking on a character’s icon will open up a personal chat just between you and them. You can chat with the character about your work and get specific insights on any parts you want help with.
  • Direct abilities: Each character has a range of abilities that can be applied to your work. These take the form of buttons above the individual chats. If you wish to use one of the characters’ special abilities, simply select some of your text and then click on the relevant ability button.
• Sending messages: When working in the chat interface, you can click paper airplane icon to send your message, or you can use the hotkeys Command + Enter (on Mac) or Control + Enter (on Windows).
• Resetting the chat: To reset the chat (when you want to use any of the special abilities of the characters), simply click the rewind icon and the ability buttons will reappear.
• Learning more about the characters: Our characters develop over time as you work with them more and more. As they become comfortable with you, they will reveal more aspects of their personality!

Can I use the Writers Room in different languages?

At the moment, the Writers Room works best in English only. You can chat with the companions in other languages, but their responses will be unreliable.

How long can the text I paste into the Writers Room be?

That depends on the type of subscription you have. Free users can work with approximately 1.5 pages of text, while paying users can work with full book manuscripts. One thing to bear in mind is that (depending on how long your books are!) some operations get a little bit slower when the text gets long. Pasting a whole book, for example, can take 10-15 seconds. But once it's loaded, companion abilities like "find my theme" will use the whole text if it was selected.
